Reports to the Northern California BirdBox, transcribed for BirdWest by Adam Winer.

ALAMEDA COUNTY

30 June  In Hayward, 1 or 2 Black Skimmers were with nesting terns at Hayward Regional Shoreline. Take the trail to the Bay from the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center. Seven Red-necked Phalaropes also were in the area. Kristi Hein

21 June  In Hayward, an alternate-plumaged Arctic Tern was at the southwesternmost island of the wastewater ponds at Johnson's Landing at Hayward Regional Shoreline - this is almost certainly the same bird seen here for the past several years. Three Black Skimmers were on the same island, and another was on the levee further back. A pair of alternate-plumaged Wilson's Phalaropes were near where the trail turns to the north. Kevin Hintsa

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

21 June  On Bethel Island, a male Indigo Bunting was at Piper Slough, at the north end of Bethel Island Road. Keith Kwan

21 June  In Martinez, a singing Red-eyed Vireo was at the Carquinez Straits Regional Shoreline parking lot. Denise Wight

10 June  In the Berkeley Hills, a male Northern Bobwhite (certainly an escapee) was at the Tilden Nature Area boardwalk. An Osprey flew over Jewel Lake. Mark Razon(?)

8 June  In the Berkeley Hills in the Tilden Nature Area, a male Black-and-white Warbler was at Jewel Lake, just north of the spillway. Emilie Strauss

6 June  On Bethel Island, the male Indigo Bunting was still present. Park at the north end of Bethel Island Road. Take the levee trail to the west, then a dirt trail down to the base of the levee. Continue south. Look in a tall leafless willow in front of a group of willows on the right where the trail crosses the west end of a cleared area. Mike Feighner

4 June  In Richmond, the male Harlequin Duck was still on the beach left of the old pier at Brooks Island. Also on the beach were 125 Elegant Terns. Best viewing is from the end of Marina Way. Steve Glover

3 June  On Bethel Island, a male Indigo Bunting was seen again at Piper Slough, in a blackberry bramble next to the end of Bethel Island Road. Steve Glover
